"Wonder Showzen"
Season One DVD set

MTV2's twisted little slab of terrific, "Wonder Showzen" rips through the ripe target of children's programming with such maniac glee that it's a little scary to watch. Truth just sounds more frightening when coming from the mouths of children and puppets. Like a version of "Sesame Street" that has lost all hope and wants to take it out on the rest of the world, "WZ" has a slim premise that holds together a string of animated and live action sketches. While the show often crosses the line between brilliant surrealism and cacophonic irritant, the genius comes often enough to make the experience worthwhile. It's hard not to like a show that will dress a kid up as Hitler and have him go around asking people "What's wrong with the youth of America today." Or one in which a major plot point involves God committing suicide and head-puppet Chauncey has to decide what to do with the body (hint: barbecue). Good, but better in small doses.
