Starship Troopers

"Starship Troopers," by Robert A. Heinlein
Ace 1997 paperback edition
Ah, Heinlein, you wily old fascist. Even in the simplest sort of science fiction tale (men with guns shooting space bugs) you still manage to include a less-than-subtle subtext about the dangers of communism and how our society needs to embrace militaristic totalitarianism in order to combat it. Still, regardless of the painfully dated subtext, this is one of Heinlein's more straightforward and action packed works of sci-fi. It's written for teenage boys and reads like it, so keep that in mind. Otherwise a thrilling enough book, if slight.
