LibraryThing.com
This has to be the nerdiest thing that I have ever been involved with, and I use to play "Magic: The Gathering" (I also once failed a college course because I couldn't stop playing "Diablo 2"). The basic idea is that you are able to catalogue your entire book collection online then sort it and share it with the world. Book details can be gathered through a variety of sources, from any of the Amazon.com sites to the Library of Congress, or if you have something especially rare you can enter it manually. The system will tell you how many users own the same books and provide links to the profiles of users whose libraries match up to your own. The site is pretty easy to navigate and getting started is almost too easy. The site is only a year old and is only now starting to get heavy traffic, which means that it is just getting some bugs and interface problems worked out and is occasionally bogged down with users while the capacity is trying to catch up with the demand. Free memberships allow for 200 books in a catalog, while paid membership ($10 for a year, $25 for a lifetime) offers unlimited use. In summery, a bibliophile's Internet wet dream.
